5 easy & fun DIY Halloween decorations for your home

How to: 5 Easy

Halloween is less than a week away! If you haven’t started decorating your home yet, we have 5 quick, easy, cheap and fun DIY Halloween home décor ideas for you. One quick trip to the store and a night of family festivities can completely give your home a new look for the soon coming Halloween holiday. Check out these five awesome Halloween home décor ideas:

Gigantic spiders

We all have that one friend that is absolutely terrified of spiders (maybe it’s you!). This is such a cool idea that can be done within minutes. Grab a package of black balloons and some black party streamers. Blow up two balloons in different sizes to resemble the body shape of a giant spider, tie the balloon ends together and then find the perfect corner in your home where your guests can see. Then, tape the streamers to the big balloon and then to the wall (or whatever works in your home). The decoration we created shown above is amateur, but if you have a creative side to you, you can do all different colors of balloons or draw faces on them, put hair on the spiders, take a red sharpie and draw that black widow hourglass on the spiders back. Get creative with it!

Supplies needed:

  • Black balloons
  • Black party streamers
  • Tape
  • Optional: sharpies, paper shavings for hair, cardboard/construction paper cutouts for fangs

Spider soap

Another one that is very festive and almost painless to do. Go to your local grocery store or market, buy a few clear soap dispensers and some creepy crawlies from the toy section. Open the top of the soap dispenser and drop the spiders/roaches/scorpions/centipedes/etc. into the soap. Screw the top back on and set the soap next to the desired sink. We found spiders big enough to glue onto the bottle, perfect subtle scare for that unsuspecting hand-washer. Boom! Quick, easy, no mess, no creative skills required.

Supplies needed:

  • New soft soap bottles
  • Fake plastic spiders
  • Glue (if not putting into soap)

Mummy door

This Halloween DIY home décor craft may be our favorite here at Offerpad. We know that curb appeal really says a lot about a home, and this one is one for the… front door. Grab a roll or two of toilet paper, measure the door by how many squares it needs, then add an extra square or two for when you angle it on the door. You’ll need a roll of scotch tape to secure the toilet paper to the inside of the door. Also, make it a bit more lifelike by cutting up some construction paper and making eyes poke through and look at your guests when they arrive – now you’ll have a fun, not so scary, the front door where everyone can see your Halloween spirit!

Supplies needed:

  • 1-2 rolls to toilet paper
  • Colored construction paper (white/red/yellow/green/black)
  • Scissors
  • Tape

A colony of flying bats

This one is probably one of more fun home décor crafts you can do with your little one. Especially if your child is just learning how to navigate and use a pair of scissors, this Halloween home décor craft is perfect for them. Just get some black construction paper, draw different sized bat outlines (or let them trace their hands!) and let your little one practice their scissor cutting skills. Then once the colony of bats is cut out, you can either tape them to windows, walls or hang them from the ceiling with fishing string or dental floss. This Halloween craft is not only festive but a good learning/teaching experience for your smaller children, give it a shot.

Supplies needed:

  • Black construction paper
  • Pencil/writing utensil
  • Scissors
  • Fishing line/dental floss or Scotch tape to tape to the wall

Milk Jug-o’-lanterns

Okay, right off the bat, these things are pretty cool. If you have children, chances are you go through more than one milk jug on a weekly basis. Within a weeks’ time, you can have a full lineup of Milk-Jug-o-Lanterns lining your porch walkway. We recommend washing out the milk jugs thoroughly, then cutting a hole in the bottom or back of the jug before taking a sharpie to them – reason being, your hands/fingers may smudge the sharpie once applied and not fully dry.

Supplies needed:

  • Empty milk jugs
  • Black sharpie marker
  • Scissors
  • Candles or white LED Christmas lights (you could use orange or even green too!)

We know there are hundreds of ways to decorate and design your home, but we also know that sometimes you are in a little bit of a time crunch to get things done for the holidays. We hoped you loved our quick and easy spooky Halloween DIY craft ideas, feel free to share yours in the comments!
